Michael DiGiacomo appointed U.S. attorney for Western District of New York

Michael DiGiacomo has been appointed as the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of New York, effective February 28, 2025. The appointment was made by Attorney General Pamela Bondi. DiGiacomo was sworn in on March 3, 2025, by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo. His term will last for 120 days or until a Presidential nominee is confirmed by the United States Senate.

DiGiacomo's career as an Assistant U.S. Attorney began in 2002, focusing initially on narcotics and violent crimes where he handled cases involving multi-defendant narcotics traffickers. He later transitioned to the White Collar and General Crimes Division, serving as Chief for a decade and supervising a team of attorneys.

His experience includes prosecuting cases related to child exploitation, defense procurement fraud, intellectual property violations, health care fraud, international parental kidnapping, and immigration offenses. Additionally, he is the computer hacking and intellectual property coordinator for his district.

Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, DiGiacomo practiced law privately in Buffalo, NY.

Expressing his sentiments about his new role, DiGiacomo said: “Having served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in this office for the past 23 years, I am both honored and humbled to be chosen to serve as United States Attorney.”
