Gary M. Restaino, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona
Timothy Courchaine has assumed the role of Interim United States Attorney for the District of Arizona. His appointment was made by Attorney General Pam Bondi on February 28, 2025.
In his new position, Courchaine is responsible for overseeing federal crime prosecutions and civil litigations in Arizona where the United States holds an interest. He leads a team of about 350 staff members, including prosecutors, civil litigators, and support personnel throughout Arizona. The district he serves encompasses over seven million residents.
Courchaine joined the District of Arizona as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in 2020. During his tenure, he has dealt with various criminal cases involving border crimes and activities linked to Mexican-based cartels within the Southwest Border and OCDETF sections.
Before joining the Department of Justice, Courchaine served as a Judge Advocate in the United States Marine Corps, leaving service with the rank of Captain. He also worked as a law clerk for Judge William G. Montgomery on the Arizona Supreme Court from 2019 to 2020.
He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Alabama in 2014 and obtained his Bachelor of Arts from California State University, Long Beach, in 2011.
