Gerardo Tejada-Calleja, a 22-year-old from Mexico, was arrested by the United States Border Patrol on March 2, 2025. He faces charges of assaulting a federal officer and illegal entry into the United States.

According to the complaint filed by the government, a Border Patrol agent responded to reports of suspected illegal aliens near Vamori, Arizona, on March 2. Upon arrival, the agent discovered Tejada-Calleja hiding under a tree. When approached, Tejada-Calleja attempted to flee but was found again with another individual hiding under brush.

During the apprehension attempt, as the agent reached for his radio to call for backup, Tejada-Calleja allegedly grabbed at the agent’s gun belt and radio in an effort to disarm him. The confrontation resulted in both men falling to the ground. Despite initially evading capture once more, Tejada-Calleja and his companion were eventually detained.

The investigation is being conducted by United States Border Patrol. Assistant United States Attorney Sarah Precup from Tucson is prosecuting the case.
