A federal grand jury in Rockford has indicted a correctional officer from the Federal Correctional Institution in Thomson, Illinois. The officer, Danny L. Spyker, aged 40 and residing in Lanark, Illinois, is accused of engaging in sexual acts with two inmates during December 2023 and March 2024. The indictment was filed on February 25, 2025, and made public today.
Spyker has been on administrative leave since June 2024. The announcement of the indictment was made by Morris Pasqual, Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, alongside William J. Hannah, Acting Special Agent-in-Charge of the Midwest Regional Office of the Department of Justice’s Office of Inspector General. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Kim represents the government in this case.
The indictment serves as a formal charge but does not imply guilt. Spyker is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court. If convicted on any count, he faces up to 15 years in federal prison per charge. The court will determine an appropriate sentence based on federal statutes and guidelines if a conviction occurs.
