John Giordano becomes new U.S. attorney for District of New Jersey

John Giordano has been appointed as the 64th United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey. His appointment was made by Attorney General Pamela Bondi, and he was officially sworn in on March 3.

"I thank President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi for their trust and confidence in me. Serving President Trump and the citizens of my home state of New Jersey is the honor of a lifetime and a privilege I do not take lightly," said U.S. Attorney John Giordano. "Together with the dedicated and highly skilled men and women of the U.S. Attorney's Office, I am committed to tirelessly protecting our citizens and ensuring swift justice for those who violate the laws of the United States of America."

Giordano emphasized that his immediate focus will be on confronting violent gang activity, dismantling human trafficking networks, and eliminating drug cartels' influence in flooding streets with fentanyl and other deadly substances.

A Burlington County native, Giordano has extensive experience in both public service and private practice. His previous roles include serving within the Department of Justice as Counselor to the Assistant Attorney General for the Environment and Natural Resources Division, working as a prosecutor in Virginia's Eastern District, handling complex federal cases like national security violations, narcotics trafficking, violent crimes, and government theft.

He also served as Assistant Commissioner for Compliance and Enforcement at New Jersey's Department of Environmental Protection. In addition to these roles, Giordano was appointed by President Trump as Representative to the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly focusing on national security issues such as human trafficking and counterterrorism.

In academia, he shared his legal expertise as an Adjunct Professor at Rutgers University School of Law and Lecturer in Law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate from Villanova University in 1998 with a law degree from its School of Law obtained in 2002, he clerked for United States District Judge Joseph E. Irenas before entering private practice.

As U.S. Attorney for New Jersey's district, Giordano oversees all federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation involving federal interests across Newark, Camden, Trenton offices supervising about 153 federal prosecutors along with 104 support staff members.
