Vanessa Roberts Avery, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut
Marc H. Silverman, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that Elbert Llorrens, 32, from New Haven, has pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. The plea was entered before U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport.
Court documents reveal that on March 1, 2024, Llorrens had a loaded Smith & Wesson model SD40 VE .40 caliber pistol in his possession. Previously, in March 2017, he was sentenced to 60 months of imprisonment and five years of supervised release for multiple carjackings and armed robberies. At the time of possessing the firearm, Llorrens was under federal supervised release.
Federal law prohibits individuals convicted of felony offenses from possessing firearms that have moved through interstate or foreign commerce. The charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 15 years in prison. Llorrens is set to be sentenced on June 4 and has been detained since March 1, 2024.
The investigation involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the New Haven Police Department, and the West Haven Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel E. Cummings is prosecuting the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at reducing violent crime through evidence-based strategies involving community stakeholders and focusing enforcement on violent offenders while supporting prevention and reentry programs.
