Mexican national indicted for illegal reentry into the United States

Roger B. Handberg, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida

Orlando, Florida – The Acting United States Attorney, Sara C. Sweeney, has announced an indictment against Juan Jose Ugalde-Monroy, a 33-year-old Mexican national. He is charged with illegal reentry into the United States after being previously deported. If found guilty, Ugalde-Monroy could face up to two years in federal prison.

Court documents reveal that Ugalde-Monroy was deported from the United States on January 11 and January 15, 2017. On February 14, 2025, he was arrested by Osceola County authorities for not having a valid driver's license and for introducing drugs into a controlled facility, as well as possession of cocaine. It is noted that Ugalde-Monroy did not have the consent of either the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to seek readmission to the United States.

It is important to highlight that an indictment is simply a formal accusation of one or more violations of federal criminal law. Every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The investigation into this case was conducted by the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kaley Austin-Aronson.
