Guatemalan national charged with illegal reentry into the United States

A Guatemalan national living in Waltham has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly reentering the United States illegally after being deported. William Estruado Rodriguez-Botello, aged 39, faces one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien.

If convicted, Rodriguez-Botello could face up to 20 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and a fine that may reach $250,000. Upon completion of any sentence imposed, he would be subject to deportation once more. Sentencing is determined by a federal district court judge according to U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Luke A. Goldworm from the Major Crimes Unit.

It is important to note that the details provided in the charging documents are allegations at this stage. "The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law."
