A New Bern resident has been sentenced to 64 months in prison for his involvement in a drug trafficking organization in Craven County. Robert Niquan Bryant, aged 26, pled guilty on November 21, 2024, to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute significant quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl. He also admitted to distributing over 50 grams of methamphetamine. Authorities have identified Bryant as a member of the United Blood Nation street gang.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), along with the Craven County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) and the New Bern Police Department, initiated an investigation into the organization's activities in December 2023. Bryant was recognized as a distributor for the organization, conducting two controlled sales of methamphetamine in March and April 2024. In each transaction, he sold more than 100 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential informant.

This case was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation. OCDETF aims to identify and dismantle major drug traffickers and criminal organizations by employing a coordinated approach involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

Daniel P. Bubar, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, announced the sentencing after it was handed down by U.S. District Judge Terrence W. Boyle. The ATF, CCSO, and New Bern Police Department were involved in investigating the case while Assistant U.S. Attorneys Caroline Webb and Julie Childress prosecuted it.
