A Louisville man has been sentenced to three years and one month in federal prison for illegal firearm possession. The sentencing follows Cameron Lester's previous felony convictions, making it unlawful for him to possess firearms.
U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett of the Western District of Kentucky, Acting Special Agent in Charge A.J. Gibes of the ATF Louisville Field Division, and Chief Paul Humphrey of the Louisville Metro Police Department announced the sentence.
Court documents reveal that Lester, 29, was found with a Springfield Arms .45 caliber pistol and ammunition on August 30, 2024. His prior convictions include assault in the fourth-degree domestic violence third or greater offense within five years, strangulation in the second degree, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon from July 21, 2023. Additionally, on July 30, 2021, he was convicted for two counts of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and other charges.
The case was investigated by the ATF and the Louisville Metro Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Josh Porter prosecuted it as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through community cooperation and strategic law enforcement.
This initiative emphasizes building trust within communities while supporting organizations that work to prevent violence before it occurs. It also focuses on setting strategic enforcement priorities and measuring their outcomes.
