A California man has been sentenced in U.S. District Court in Bangor for his involvement in a drug trafficking operation spanning from California to Maine. Alex Hanna, aged 31, received a sentence of 138 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release. Hanna had previously pleaded guilty on March 14, 2024.
Court documents reveal that between May 2022 and March 2023, Hanna was involved in the trafficking of methamphetamine in Downeast Maine. The drugs were mailed from a source in California, and Hanna was responsible for coordinating these shipments. He also enlisted coconspirators in Maine to receive the packages and used various financial platforms such as Walmart2Walmart, Cash App, and Venmo to send sales proceeds back to the source. To obscure his role, he utilized the identifications and accounts of his coconspirators.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI with support from several agencies including the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Ellsworth Police Department, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, Holden Police Department, and Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.
U.S. District Judge Stacey D. Neumann presided over the sentencing.
