Rubio criticized both sides for their lack of a clear strategy, saying, "The plan of the Ukrainians up to now and their allies on Capitol Hill...is let’s just keep giving them as much as they need for as long as it takes. That’s not a strategy." He added that while Russia had made some progress, they were not decisively winning either.
Rubio noted the importance of diplomatic engagement: "We have to engage both sides, the Russians and the Ukrainians." He mentioned that President Trump has been working towards ending the conflict and believes diplomacy will be key in achieving this goal.
Regarding Russian President Putin's willingness to negotiate, Rubio confirmed recent discussions: "Their answer was we are interested in talking about it. We now need to follow up." However, he acknowledged challenges when one side is perceived as uninterested in peace.
On President Trump's leadership style and intentions, Rubio remarked, "He wants to be a peacemaker," suggesting that international criticism often accompanies Trump's efforts despite his intention to prevent wars.
In response to recent developments in Gaza involving hostages held by Hamas, Rubio reiterated Trump's firm stance: "He doesn’t say these things and not mean it... If he says he’s going to do something, he’ll do it."
When asked about domestic political dynamics during a congressional session, Rubio commented on partisan reactions: "It was really surprising and petty," reflecting on Democrats' response during a presidential address.
