A woman from Clinton, Indiana, has pleaded guilty to involvement in a murder-for-hire plot. Davetta Cox, aged 32, admitted her guilt on March 7, 2025, in Urbana, Illinois. The sentencing is scheduled for July 18, 2025.
Cox confessed to attempting to hire someone she believed was a hitman to kill another person. According to the government during the hearing with U.S. Magistrate Judge Eric I. Long, Cox offered $6,000 for the act.
She was taken into custody in January 2024 and remains under the United States Marshals Service's supervision until her sentencing. Cox could face up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $500,000, and six years of supervised release.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Springfield Field Office and Champaign Resident Agency alongside the Illinois State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Ritzer is handling the prosecution.
