Rep. Emmer: Crypto Caucus will ensure the U.S 'defines' the 'future of finance'

Rep. Tom Emmer said that digital asset technology is driving a "fundamental shift" in finance. As chairman of the Congressional Crypto Caucus with Rep. Ritchie Torres, he intends to ensure that the United States not only "participates" but also "defines" its future in this domain. This statement was made in a March 4 post on X.

"Digital asset technology represents a fundamental shift in how we think about finance," said Tom Emmer, Representative. "As Chairmen of the Congressional Crypto Caucus, Rep. Ritchie Torres and I will ensure the United States doesn't just participate in the future of finance but defines it."

According to Emmer, writing in a CoinDesk opinion piece, the United States is a leader in global innovation due to a system that allows entrepreneurs to build without "government interference and excessive regulations." He said cryptocurrency offers "economic freedom" by shifting financial control from centralized institutions to individuals. To support this perspective, he and Torres announced the formation of the Congressional Crypto Caucus, described as a "nonpartisan" voting bloc focused on advancing digital asset policies.

The newly formed Congressional Crypto Caucus aims to advance policies supporting the growth of the digital asset industry in the U.S. A press release from Emmer’s office indicates that the caucus will serve as a coordinated group advocating for regulatory clarity, innovation, and consumer protections within the crypto space. This initiative arises amid ongoing legislative debates over major issues such as stablecoin and market structure bills.

In his CoinDesk opinion piece, Emmer said that the caucus will advocate for "transparent, commonsense regulations" balancing consumer protection with innovation, ensuring that the U.S. remains a leading hub for digital assets. He noted that innovators have faced a "regulatory minefield" and called for "smart regulation" rather than deregulation.

Congressman Tom Emmer represents Minnesota's 6th congressional district and has been an outspoken advocate for cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. As House Majority Whip and a member of the House Financial Services Committee, he has introduced several bills aimed at providing regulatory clarity for digital assets and fostering innovation in the financial technology sector.
