Clinton J. Johnson U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma
A man from Kansas, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for sexually abusing three children. U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson announced that Sequoyah Jo Hinzo, aged 30, was convicted on charges including two counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Minor Under 12 in Indian Country and Coercion and Enticement of a Minor.
U.S. District Judge Gregory K. Frizzell handed down the sentence, which includes lifetime supervised release following Hinzo's imprisonment. Upon release, Hinzo must register as a sex offender.
Court documents reveal that between 2020 and 2022, Hinzo abused three minors aged 6, 9, and 13. He also used fake social media accounts to solicit sexually explicit photos from one of the victims.
Hinzo is a member of the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians and will remain in custody until his transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI, Kansas Police Department, and Cherokee Nation Marshal Service. Assistant U.S. Attorneys George Jiang and Valeria Luster prosecuted the case.
This case falls under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project aims to locate and prosecute offenders while rescuing victims through coordinated efforts among federal, state, and local agencies.
