A New Jersey man has been sentenced to 144 months in prison for possession of firearms and ammunition by a convicted felon, as well as possession with intent to distribute cocaine. U.S. Attorney John Giordano made the announcement.
Dominick Montgomery, aged 38 from Plainfield, New Jersey, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Georgette Castner on October 8, 2024. The sentencing took place on March 6, 2025.
The case involved an investigation into narcotics trafficking in Somerset and Middlesex County starting in October 2021. Law enforcement identified Montgomery as a distributor of narcotics in the area. Between October 27, 2021, and January 24, 2022, he sold eight firearms along with cocaine and fentanyl to an undercover officer for money. On January 24, 2022, during the final transaction, Montgomery exchanged cocaine and three firearms for $6,750 with the undercover officer. He was arrested on February 2, 2022, while in possession of a Smith and Wesson pistol and fifteen rounds of ammunition.
Judge Castner also sentenced Montgomery to three years of supervised release following his prison term.
U.S. Attorney Giordano credited special agents from the ATF under Special Agent in Charge L.C. Cheeks Jr., and the Somerset County Prosecutors Office led by Prosecutor John P. McDonald for their roles in the investigation leading to this outcome.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan N. Linares from the Office’s Criminal Division in Newark represented the government in this case.
