A Mexican national has been sentenced to over 11 years in federal prison for drug trafficking offenses in the Eastern District of Texas. Acting U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothin, Jr. announced the sentencing.
Audivier Martinez-Gomez, aged 24 from Oaxaca, Mexico, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. He received a sentence of 135 months in federal prison from U.S. District Judge Michael Truncale on March 11, 2025.
Court documents revealed that on June 18, 2024, Martinez-Gomez was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for speeding in a construction zone on Interstate-10 in Beaumont. Both Martinez-Gomez and his wife, who was driving, provided conflicting stories about their travel plans and appeared unusually nervous during the traffic stop. Upon consenting to a search of the vehicle, law enforcement found THC edibles inside the passenger compartment and large garbage sacks containing multiple bags of crystal methamphetamine totaling 29.6 kilograms in the trunk.
The investigation was conducted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Quinn.
