Lori Chavez-DeRemer was sworn in as the 30th U.S. Secretary of Labor after a bipartisan Senate confirmation vote of 67-32. Upon her appointment, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and emphasized her commitment to supporting American workers. President Trump announced Chavez-DeRemer's nomination on November 22, 2024, expressing his anticipation of working with her to create opportunities for American workers and improve working conditions. He noted that he looks forward to “working with her to create tremendous opportunity for American Workers, to expand Training and Apprenticeships, to grow wages and improve working conditions, to bring back our Manufacturing jobs.”

Chavez-DeRemer's public service career began in 2002 with the Happy Valley Parks Committee in Oregon. She later served on the Happy Valley City Council and became its first Latina mayor. Her leadership contributed significantly to making Happy Valley Oregon’s fastest-growing community.
In 2022, she was elected as a U.S. Representative from Oregon’s 5th Congressional District, marking a historic moment as the first Republican woman and one of the first Latinas elected from the state. During her tenure in Congress, she served on several committees including Agriculture; Education and the Workforce; and Transportation and Infrastructure.
A successful small businesswoman with a degree in business administration, Chavez-DeRemer co-founded an anesthesia management company alongside her husband Dr. Shawn DeRemer. She is also a mother of twin daughters and remains committed to advocating for businesses, workers, and families nationwide.
