U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration, arrested Roxana Beatriz Ayala-Duran, a 41-year-old Salvadoran national residing illegally in the United States. The arrest took place on February 25 in Alexandria, Virginia. Ayala-Duran had been previously convicted of assault in Virginia.

"The apprehension of Roxana Beatriz Ayala-Duran shows ICE is dedicated to arresting and removing illegal alien offenders from our Washington, D.C. and Virginia communities," stated Russ Hott, Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Washington, D.C. He further emphasized that "Ms. Ayala was convicted of a violent crime against a Virginia resident that we will not tolerate. The officers of ICE remain dedicated to prioritizing the safety of our public."

Ayala's history with U.S. immigration authorities dates back to September 14, 2004, when she was arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol after entering the country illegally near Douglas, Arizona. She was issued a notice to appear before an immigration judge from the Department of Justice the following day.

On December 22, 2004, an immigration judge ordered her removal from the United States to El Salvador.

The Alexandria General District Court found Ayala guilty of assault on August 10, 2020. She received a sentence of 30 days incarceration; however, this sentence was entirely suspended by the court.

ICE encourages members of the public to report crimes and suspicious activities by calling 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or by completing an online tip form.
