Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson has announced that Evin Enrique Funez-Cruz, a 22-year-old Honduran national, pleaded guilty to the charge of reentry of a removed alien. This plea was entered on March 12, 2025, and involves a violation of Title 8, United States Code, Sections 1326(a) and (b)(1).
Funez-Cruz was apprehended in St. Tammany Parish on or around January 6, 2025. He had previously been deported to Honduras on June 21, 2024.
Funez-Cruz could face up to ten years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, up to three years of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson acknowledged the efforts of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in investigating this case. The prosecution is being managed by Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis from the General Crimes Unit.
