A Las Vegas man, Edward Rodriguez, 37, was sentenced to five years in prison for distributing fentanyl and possessing ammunition unlawfully. The sentencing was delivered by United States District Judge Richard F. Boulware II, who also imposed four years of supervised release on Rodriguez.

Rodriguez pleaded guilty to charges of distributing approximately 1,000 pills containing fentanyl and being a felon in possession of ammunition. Court documents reveal that on October 6, 2022, Rodriguez sold the fentanyl pills for money. Later that month, on October 18, he evaded a traffic stop by speeding through a school zone and neighborhood, endangering children. He was eventually stopped inside a store with a backpack containing drugs and ammunition.

Further investigation revealed that Rodriguez's car contained additional firearms: a shotgun and a modified semi-automatic handgun. His criminal history includes convictions for forgery, attempted burglary, firearm possession as an ex-felon in Clark County, Nevada, as well as drug distribution and firearm possession offenses in the District of Nevada.

Acting United States Attorney Sue Fahami for the District of Nevada and Assistant Special Agent in Charge Kevin Adams for the DEA Las Vegas Division announced the sentencing. The case was investigated by the DEA alongside the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Melanee Smith.
