A Muskogee resident has pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Andrew Thomas Edwards, 44, entered a guilty plea for one count of failure to register.
The indictment against Edwards detailed previous felony convictions in Oklahoma. These include Lewd Molestation on September 20, 2011, Indecent Exhibition of Child Pornography on November 15, 2001, and another charge of Lewd Molestation on January 28, 2015. Despite these convictions requiring him to register as a sex offender, Edwards failed to update his registration from June 4, 2024, until September 21, 2024. During this period, he was entering or residing in Indian country within the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The investigation into Edwards' failure to register was conducted by the United States Marshals Service alongside the Muskogee Police Department.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson accepted Edwards' plea and ordered a presentence investigation report. Until sentencing is determined, Edwards will remain in custody under the supervision of the United States Marshals Service.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessie K. Pippin.
