A Fresno, California resident has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for receiving child sexual abuse material. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge W. Scott Hardy to Alberto Padilla, 23, who will also face five years of supervised release following his imprisonment.
The court heard that between June and October 2021, Padilla communicated with a 13-year-old minor in the Western District of Pennsylvania. During these interactions, he requested and obtained materials depicting the sexual exploitation of the minor.
Judge Hardy highlighted the severity of Padilla's actions and acknowledged the lasting impact such crimes have on child victims during sentencing.
Assistant United States Attorney Robert C. Schupansky led the prosecution for this case. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti praised the efforts of the Department of Homeland Security and Peters Township Police Department for their investigation, which resulted in Padilla's successful prosecution.
