Eddie Limas, a 35-year-old resident of New Britain, has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for trafficking fentanyl. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Sarala V. Nagala in Hartford and includes five years of supervised release following imprisonment.
The FBI's Northern Connecticut Gang Task Force began investigating Limas in 2022 after receiving information about his involvement in trafficking kilogram quantities of fentanyl from the Dominican Republic. The drugs were stored at a stash house in the Bronx, New York, and distributed across central Connecticut. Between January and April 2022, investigators conducted five controlled purchases of fentanyl from Limas.
On May 13, 2022, Connecticut State Police stopped a vehicle driven by Hector Limas on I-84 in Danbury. A search revealed approximately 700 grams of fentanyl and $19,000 in cash. On the same day, law enforcement attempted to arrest Eddie Limas in Hartford; however, he fled after crashing into a police cruiser.
Further investigation led to the discovery of over two kilograms of fentanyl, more than 300 grams of cocaine, approximately one kilogram of marijuana, drug processing equipment, and firearms at Eddie Limas' residence. Carmen Hernandez was found with additional narcotics during this operation.
Eddie Limas evaded capture until May 9, 2023. He pleaded guilty on September 18, 2024, to conspiracy charges related to distributing large quantities of fentanyl.
Hector Limas and Carmen Hernandez also faced charges related to this case. Hector received a sentence of 90 months on November 8, 2023; Hernandez was sentenced to two years on January 14, 2025.
The investigation involved multiple agencies including the FBI’s Northern Connecticut Gang Task Force and several local police departments. Assistant U.S. Attorney A. Reed Durham prosecuted the case.
