Glenville man charged with distribution of child sexual abuse material

Gregory Magin, a 44-year-old resident of Glenville, New York, was arrested on Friday following a criminal complaint accusing him of distributing child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The announcement was made by United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III and Craig L. Tremaroli, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The complaint alleges that Magin distributed CSAM videos over the internet between July 18 and July 20, 2024. It is claimed that he sent these videos to other users via an online chat application to gain access to certain groups. These charges are accusations at this stage; Magin is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Magin appeared in court on Friday before United States Magistrate Judge Daniel J. Stewart in Albany and was ordered detained pending a detention hearing set for Tuesday, March 18.

The FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force is leading the investigation with support from the New York State Police. Assistant United States Attorney Allen J. Vickey is handling prosecution as part of Project Safe Childhood.

Project Safe Childhood is an initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse, launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006. It involves U.S. Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), utilizing federal, state, and local resources to apprehend individuals exploiting children online and rescue victims.
