A Corpus Christi resident has been sentenced to federal prison for drug-related charges. Sunny Ray Garcia, 27, was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute over 11 grams of methamphetamine. This announcement came from U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei.
Garcia had pleaded guilty on November 21, 2024. U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos also ordered that Garcia serve four years of supervised release following his prison term. During the hearing, evidence was presented about Garcia's criminal history, which includes convictions for aggravated sexual assault of a child, burglary, and possession of a controlled substance.
Authorities identified Garcia as a target in a drug distribution investigation in January 2023. On January 25, they conducted an operation where drugs were purchased from him and later confirmed to be methamphetamine.
In February 2023, when authorities arrested Garcia, they found a stolen firearm in his vehicle.
Garcia will remain in custody until he is transferred to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.
The Drug Enforcement Administration led the investigation with help from the Corpus Christi Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Izaak Bruce prosecuted the case.
