Honduran national sentenced to two years for illegal re-entry into US

A Honduran national, Alex Salomon Reyes-Chavez, has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for re-entering the United States after being deported. The sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge Sarah D. Vance on March 12, 2025, as announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson.

Reyes-Chavez, aged 45, had previously been deported on March 5, 2012. He was arrested on June 30, 2023, by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana for two counts of theft and illegal possession of stolen items. Federal authorities later apprehended him on October 24, 2023, in Gretna, Louisiana.

The court documents revealed that Reyes-Chavez had been removed from the United States multiple times due to illegal reentry. His criminal history includes a four-year sentence for possession of heroin in Bexar County, Texas in July 2010 and a conviction for third-degree grand theft in Miami, Florida in April 2007.

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson commended the efforts of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement for their investigation into this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carter K.D. Guice Jr., from the General Crimes Unit, is leading the prosecution.
