Former office manager sentenced for embezzling $1.5 million from senior care facility

Amy Elizabeth Curry, a former office manager at Silver Bluff, LLC in Canton, North Carolina, has been sentenced to 70 months in prison for embezzling over $1.5 million from the senior living facility. U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson announced the sentencing, which includes three years of supervised release and an order for Curry to pay $1,469,407.24 in restitution.

Curry's fraudulent activities took place between December 2022 and April 2023 while she was employed as a bookkeeper at Silver Bluff. With access to the facility’s bank accounts and records, she conducted 154 unauthorized transfers into accounts controlled by herself and her then-boyfriend identified as J.C. To conceal her actions, Curry deleted transaction histories and altered notification settings to prevent alerts from reaching other employees or management.

The embezzled funds were used for personal expenses such as purchasing a pick-up truck and gambling activities that amounted to over $700,000 spent at casinos.

Curry pleaded guilty to wire fraud on December 11, 2023. She is required to report to the Federal Bureau of Prisons once a federal facility is designated for her sentence.

U.S. Attorney Ferguson acknowledged the investigative efforts of the FBI and Haywood County Sheriff’s Office in this case.

The prosecution was handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Asheville.
