Mexican citizen sentenced for role in alien smuggling conspiracy

Pedro Solano-Azamar, a 27-year-old Mexican citizen, has been sentenced to three years in prison for his involvement in an alien smuggling conspiracy. The announcement was made by United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III and Chief Patrol Agent Robert N. Garcia of the United States Border Patrol's Swanton Sector.

Solano-Azamar, who entered the United States illegally in 2020, pleaded guilty to charges related to smuggling activities. He admitted that on May 15, 2023, he traveled from North Carolina to Northern New York with four co-conspirators and facilitated the illegal entry of 16 Mexican citizens into the United States from Canada.

After serving his prison sentence, Solano-Azamar will face deportation back to Mexico. The case was investigated by the United States Border Patrol and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Stitt.
