Michele Beckwith Acting U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California

Luis Vasquez-Lopez, a 47-year-old Mexican national living in Sacramento, has been sentenced to over ten years in prison for fentanyl trafficking. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge William B. Shubb. Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith announced the sentencing.

Court documents reveal that on May 22, 2023, law enforcement officers stopped Vasquez-Lopez's vehicle in Sacramento. During the stop, they discovered a large brick of fentanyl, a digital scale with residue, and a loaded 9 mm handgun.

The investigation leading to this conviction was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Butte Interagency Narcotics Task Force (BINTF), and the California Highway Patrol. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hitt prosecuted the case.
