U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers intercepted 116 pounds of cocaine at the Ambassador Bridge port of entry in Detroit on March 21. The drugs were discovered during an inspection of an outbound commercial vehicle.

Officers selected the vehicle for examination, leading to a physical inspection that uncovered three garbage bags containing suspected narcotics hidden behind stacks of lumber. Testing confirmed the substance was cocaine.

A total of 50 bricks of cocaine were seized, along with the truck and trailer. The driver, a Canadian citizen, is facing federal prosecution.

"This is a testament to the quality of work performed by those who work tirelessly to combat transnational crime and stem the flow of dangerous drugs through our communities," said Director of Field Operations Marty C. Raybon. "Border security is a team effort, and I applaud the outstanding work by our officers and our regional law enforcement partners."

The case is under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations.

During Fiscal Year 2025, more than 1,300 pounds of cocaine have been seized by CBP Field Operations at Michigan ports as of March 5.

CBP describes itself as America's frontline: the nation's largest law enforcement organization and the world's first unified border management agency. With over 65,000 personnel, CBP aims to protect America on land, air, and sea while facilitating lawful travel and trade to ensure economic prosperity.
