U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo has announced the arrest and charging of Shawn Demmick, a 33-year-old resident of Tonawanda, NY. Demmick faces charges for the distribution of child pornography, a crime that could result in a prison sentence ranging from five to 20 years.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles M. Kruly is managing the case and revealed that the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a Cybertip in late December 2024. This tip indicated that an individual had uploaded or shared eight files containing child pornography via the Kik application on December 19, 2024. The screen name associated with these activities was “sirbannedalot,” which investigators later linked to Demmick.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia, along with support from the Town of Tonawanda Police Department under Chief James Stauffiger.
It is important to note that being charged with a crime does not imply guilt; Demmick remains innocent unless proven otherwise in court.
