U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested Gurdev Singh, a 23-year-old Indian national, in French Camp, California on March 12. The arrest was part of a targeted criminal enforcement action involving cooperation between federal and local law enforcement agencies.
"ICE welcomes partnerships between federal and local law enforcement," stated ERO San Francisco acting Field Office Director Polly Kaiser. "Leveraging professionalism, dedication to public safety, and combined investigative resources saves lives and makes not only the U.S. a safer nation, but those from which criminal aliens come."
Singh entered the United States illegally at an unspecified location and time without admission or parole by U.S. immigration authorities. He was initially encountered by the U.S. Border Patrol near Lukeville, Arizona on September 2, 2023, and released with a notice to appear before an immigration judge.
Further investigation revealed Singh's association with transnational criminal organizations. He was known to carry firearms illegally and engage in criminal activities both domestically and internationally.
On March 6, the California Highway Patrol arrested Singh for carrying a loaded firearm in public without being its registered owner, possession of a stolen vehicle, and child endangerment. A subsequent search warrant uncovered seven additional guns at Singh's residence and two more in a car on the property.
Upon learning that Singh was held by the San Joaquin Sheriff's Office, ICE lodged a detainer request on March 12; however, the sheriff’s office could not honor it. ICE subsequently took Singh into custody without incident upon his release from San Joaquin County Jail later that evening. Singh will remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
The public is encouraged to report information about foreign fugitives, transnational gang members, or other criminal aliens residing illegally in the U.S. by contacting ICE through their Tip Line at 1 (866) 347-2423 or internationally at 001-1802-872-6199. Tips can also be submitted online via ICE's website.
