American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall has responded to the Environmental Protection Agency's recent announcement regarding the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule. The EPA is taking steps to clarify how it will implement this rule in compliance with a U.S. Supreme Court decision in Sackett v. EPA.
Duvall expressed appreciation for the EPA's efforts, stating, "Farm Bureau appreciates the Environmental Protection Agency for taking a step toward providing clarity in how farmers and ranchers should comply with the Waters of the U.S. rule." He noted that almost two years ago, the Supreme Court ruled that there was an overreach by the government in its interpretation of federal jurisdiction over waters. This led to delays, litigation, and uncertainty due to unclear guidelines from the EPA.
He further commented on the role of EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, saying, "I'm pleased that EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin has listened to the concerns of farmers and is making strides toward getting rid of the guesswork." Duvall emphasized that establishing clear WOTUS implementation guidelines is crucial for helping farmers protect the environment while ensuring food production.
