Ottumwa man receives over ten years in prison for firearm possession

An Ottumwa man has been sentenced to 125 months in federal prison for firearm possession as a felon. According to court documents and evidence presented during sentencing, Nolan Ryan Rork, aged 19, was on probation with the State of Iowa in early 2024. In April 2024, Rork removed his electronic ankle monitor. By June 2024, law enforcement located him. During an attempted escape, Rork discarded his backpack containing two loaded firearms and over 60 grams of methamphetamine.

After serving his prison term, Rork will undergo a three-year supervised release period. It is important to note that there is no parole in the federal system.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa. The investigation was conducted by the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office and the Ottumwa Police Department.
