A resident of Lacombe, Louisiana, John Joseph Keiper Jr., was sentenced on March 18, 2025, for threatening a federal employee. The decision was made by United States District Judge Brandon S. Long.
Keiper, age 57, faced the court's decision after pleading guilty. He was accused of violating Title 18, United States Code, Section 115(a)(1)(B). Consequently, the court imposed a 17-month prison sentence, to run consecutively with any sentence related to other state cases he might face. Additionally, Judge Long mandated a three-year term of supervised release following Keiper's release. A $100 mandatory special assessment fee was also ordered.
The incident began on November 6, 2023, when Keiper threatened an assault on a Social Security Administration (SSA) employee. The threat was made during an irate and disruptive phone call to the SSA office in Lacombe, Louisiana.
Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson acknowledged the contributions of the Social Security Administration's Office of Inspector General in this case. The prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorney Troy Bell from the Violent Crime Unit.
