Dawn N. Ison, U.S. Attorney | Department Of Justice Eastern District Of Michigan
A Detroit man has been sentenced to over two years in federal prison following a shooting incident last July. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Julie A. Beck, with support from James Deir, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Detroit Field Division, and Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison.
The individual involved, 30-year-old Christopher Wade, received a 25-month prison sentence from United States District Judge Matthew F. Leitman. The charges stemmed from an event that took place at the intersection of Woodward Avenue and Adams Avenue, where Wade discharged nine rounds into the air after a dispute. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but a witness reported her vehicle was struck by one of the rounds. The police quickly secured the scene, arresting Wade without any further incident. Surveillance cameras recorded the event, which marked the second such occurrence in a month and the fourth in the last decade for Wade.
Wade entered a guilty plea for the charge of felon in possession of a firearm in November 2024.
Assistant United States Attorney Philip M. Jacques prosecuted the case. The investigation involved a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Detroit Police Department.
