Tahlequah resident pleads guilty to federal firearm charge

Laura Gema Carroll, a 36-year-old resident of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, has pled guilty to a federal firearm charge, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Carroll admitted to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The indictment against Carroll states that she was found in possession of a .380ACP caliber, semi-automatic pistol and five rounds of ammunition on June 12, 2024. This was after she had been previously convicted of a crime that carries a punishment of more than one year of imprisonment.

The charges were the result of an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in collaboration with the Tahlequah Police Department.

The plea was accepted by U.S. Magistrate Judge D. Edward Snow in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The judge has ordered a presentence investigation report and Carroll will remain in custody with the United States Marshals Service until sentencing.

The case for the United States was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Rachel Geizura and T. Cameron McEwen.
