As dictated by the recent FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has initiated a move to enable private aircraft owners to safeguard their personal information. Under Section 803 Data Privacy, owners can choose to keep certain details, such as names and addresses, private and not available on FAA websites.
Private aircraft owners and operators are now empowered to request, through the Civil Aviation Registry Electronic Services (CARES), that their aircraft registration information be withheld from public view. This new option is available from today.
Furthermore, the FAA plans to invite comments in the Federal Register on this measure. They seek public views on whether the removal of such information might impact stakeholders' ability to perform essential functions. These functions include maintenance, safety checks, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Additionally, the FAA is considering whether to generally withhold the personally identifiable information of private aircraft owners from the public registry. There is also evaluation underway to provide a mechanism for owners and operators to access their data when required.
