A Montgomery, Alabama man has been charged with federal offenses for his involvement in the robbery of a local dry cleaning business on March 10, 2025. Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson announced the arrest of 58-year-old Zedekiah Sykes on March 26, 2025. Sykes faces charges including armed robbery, carjacking, and brandishing a firearm as part of a federal crime of violence. His criminal complaint was unsealed by the United States District Court in Montgomery today.
The arrest followed an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Montgomery Police Department, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), and the Metro Area Crime Suppression (MACS) Task Force. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office also provided assistance in the case. Sykes is set to make his initial appearance in federal court this afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
The criminal complaint against Sykes presents allegations and he is considered innocent until proven guilty. If he is found guilty on all charges, Sykes could face a sentence ranging from seven years to life in federal prison; there is no parole in the federal system. Assistant United States Attorney Paul Markovits is prosecuting the case.
This case falls under Operation Take Back America, a national initiative by the Department of Justice. It is aimed at combating illegal immigration, dismantling cartels, and transnational criminal organizations, while protecting communities from violent crime. The operation coordinates resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
