U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has taken Ramiro Guevara, a 46-year-old Mexican national, into custody on March 26 in Dallas. Guevara, involved in a 2014 vehicle accident that resulted in the death of a 13-year-old girl, was apprehended as an illegal alien. At the time of the incident, Guevara was wanted for driving without a license, but he did not face charges related to the girl's death nor any subsequent jail time.
Special Agent in Charge of ICE Homeland Security Investigations Dallas, Travis Pickard, commented, "The arrest and pending removal of this individual serves as a stark reminder that criminal aliens who threaten the public safety of our communities will be found and face justice for their actions." He emphasized the continuous efforts of special agents, intelligence analysts, and law enforcement partners to protect communities by targeting those who violate U.S. immigration laws.
Before his recent detention, Guevara was sought for an outstanding deportation order due to his status as an alien in the United States without proper admission or parole. Guevara had filed a petition on March 10, 2016, seeking relief from removal, but this was denied on July 28, 2017. He was then ordered deported on August 23, 2017. Guevara was allotted 30 days to appeal this removal order but did not pursue further legal action.
Guevara will remain in ICE custody while awaiting removal proceedings. ICE encourages individuals to report any suspicious criminal activity through the ICE Tip Line, which is available 24/7, or via the online tip form.
