William Gilchrist, a resident of Greenville, Mississippi, has pleaded guilty to charges of impersonating a deputy United States Marshal, as announced by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson. The plea was entered on March 25, 2025, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 912.
The indictment states that on June 19, 2024, Gilchrist falsely assumed the identity of a Fugitive Task Force Officer with the United States Marshals Service. This action was taken to avoid arrest by a detective of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
Gilchrist's sentencing is scheduled for June 24, 2025, and will take place before U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan. He faces a potential penalty of up to three years in prison, one year of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.
"Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson praised the work of Homeland Security Investigations and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in investigating this matter," with Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell handling the prosecution on behalf of the General Crimes Unit.
