Placer County man sentenced to 5 years for child exploitation offenses

Michele Beckwith Acting U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California

Randy Anger, a 57-year-old resident of Carnelian Bay, has been sentenced to five years in prison for his involvement in child exploitation offenses. Additionally, he is required to pay $5,000 in restitution and $10,200 in special assessments, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.

Court documents detail that in May 2021, Anger engaged in the distribution and receipt of child sexual abuse material via the Kik Messenger app, communicating with Brent Hooton. Hooton faced separate charges of producing and distributing child pornography and received a 27-year prison sentence in the Eastern District of California. Further reports indicate that in November 2021, Anger obtained multiple images of child sexual abuse material through the Wickr app.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with support from Homeland Security Investigations and the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Denise N. Yasinow.

This sentencing is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, the initiative coordinates federal, state, and local resources to prosecute offenders and rescue victims.
