An Owls Head resident was sentenced in Portland's U.S. District Court for his involvement in trafficking fentanyl and cocaine. Felix Jose Bautista, aged 35, received a sentence of 78 months in prison with an additional four years of supervised release, decreed by U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr.

Court documents reveal that from January to June 2024, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) conducted a covert operation targeting a drug dealer obtaining fentanyl, cocaine, and other drugs from New York City and distributing them across Maine. HSI pinpointed three locations where the dealer delivered substances, one of which was Bautista's residence in Owls Head.

A search warrant executed at Bautista's residence uncovered $11,319 in cash, 154 grams of cocaine, and 62 grams of fentanyl. Bautista confessed to purchasing the drugs from a coconspirator, under the impression they were cocaine and heroin. He also stated he was holding the cash for an accomplice.

The investigation was carried out by HSI, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
