Romanian national sentenced for wire fraud and identity theft in Pennsylvania

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced the sentencing of a Romanian national, Stefan-Alin Doleanu, to 24 months in prison. Doleanu, age 29, was sentenced on March 27, 2025, by United States District Judge Jennifer P. Wilson. He was charged with wire fraud conspiracy and aggravated identity theft.

Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus indicated that Doleanu, between November 2022 and March 2023, conspired with others, including his co-defendant Eliza Doleanu. They used stolen SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer card data at various retail stores, including Sam’s Club and BJ’s Wholesale Club locations in Camp Hill, Chambersburg, Mechanicsburg, and York. During this time, they made illegal purchases valued at several thousand dollars.

Judge Wilson ordered Doleanu to pay restitution totaling $14,255.97.

Upon serving his sentence, Doleanu will be deported from the United States.

The case investigation was conducted by the United States Secret Service and the United States Department of Agriculture's Office of Inspector General. The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney David C. Williams.
