DOGE announces termination of 113 contracts with a ceiling value of $4.7B

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has announced the termination of 113 contracts valued at approximately $4.7 billion, resulting in an estimated savings of $3.3 billion. This announcement was made public through a post on X on March 26.

According to DOGE, one of the canceled contracts involved a $145,000 consulting agreement with the United States Department of Agriculture for "Peru climate change activities." The agency also released its updated Agency Efficiency Leaderboard, highlighting the top five agencies with the most savings as of March 26: the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Department of Education (ED), the General Services Administration (GSA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Department of Labor (DOL).

In a separate announcement on March 12, Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins disclosed additional budget cuts within the United States Department of Agriculture. Rollins said, "USDA was funding a $397K grant in the San Francisco Bay to educate queer, trans, and BIPOC urban farmers and consumers about food justice and values-aligned markets... This grant has been CANCELLED."
