Matthew Podolsky, the Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that Jonathan Delaura, also known as "Jon Dulak," has been sentenced to 485 months in prison. U.S. District Judge Kenneth M. Karas handed down this sentence for Delaura's involvement in receiving, distributing, and possessing child pornography, as well as transferring obscene material to a minor. Delaura had previously pled guilty on July 1, 2024.
Acting U.S. Attorney Matthew Podolsky commented on the case, stating: "DeLaura possessed large quantities of child pornography and took advantage of a fifteen-year-old child, all while he was required by law to register as a sex offender. This case underscores the urgent need for law enforcement to continue its efforts to protect children from those who prey on them. As yesterday’s sentencing demonstrates, we will use every tool available to prosecute and punish those who sexually exploit children."
Court documents reveal that on October 7, 2009, Delaura was convicted in Bronx County Court of "Sexual Misconduct: Engage in Oral/Anal Sexual Conduct Without Consent." He received a sentence of 60 days in prison and six years' probation, during which he was mandated to register with the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Following probation violations, he was resentenced to one year in prison in December 2010 and subsequently released in April 2011.
Between May 5 and May 10, 2011, Delaura received and distributed child pornography in Westchester County using a file-sharing program. In November 2011, he pretended to be a 17-year-old girl under the screen name "sillyrabbit" to contact a 15-year-old boy in an internet chat room. Delaura sent the boy sexually explicit photos and met him twice for sexual activity. He was arrested on February 2, 2012, by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department while attempting a third meeting. A search warrant at his residence yielded an iPod containing 162 videos and five images of child pornography, along with the explicit photographs sent to the boy.
On February 3, 2012, Delaura was convicted of two counts of Criminal Sexual Act in the 3rd degree in Putnam County Court and sentenced to 32 months to 8 years in prison, a sentence he completed on January 2, 2020. He has been in custody for federal charges since then. In addition to his prison sentence, Delaura, now 50, faces ten years of supervised release.
Mr. Podolsky expressed his gratitude to the agencies involved in the investigation, including Homeland Security Investigations, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, the Yorktown Police Department, the Putnam County District Attorney’s Office, the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, and the Edison Police Department in New Jersey.
The prosecution is being managed by the Office’s White Plains Division, with Assistant United States Attorney Marcia S. Cohen leading the charge.
