Dominican national sentenced for illegal reentry into the United States

A Dominican national was sentenced in Boston federal court for illegal reentry into the United States following deportation. Jose De La Rosa Rosario, 50, received a 15-month prison sentence followed by a year of supervised release. Upon completing his sentence, he will face deportation.

De La Rosa Rosario, who pleaded guilty in December 2024 to unlawful reentry after deportation, was indicted by a federal grand jury in October 2024.

Originally from the Dominican Republic, De La Rosa Rosario entered the U.S. in 2006 through Puerto Rico using false identification. In 2011, he was convicted on federal charges of conspiracy and cocaine distribution. After serving his sentence, he was deported in July 2018. He reentered the country at an unknown time and place without permission but was apprehended in September 2024 on new state drug charges, leading to his detention by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Fingerprint comparisons confirmed his identity upon arrest.

The sentencing was announced by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney James J. Nagelberg of the Major Crimes Unit.
