ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Osmin Guevara-Ramirez, a 32-year-old individual from El Salvador, has been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after his release from the Wyoming Correctional Facility in Attica, New York, on March 28. The arrest follows his conviction by the Nassau County Supreme Court for attempted murder and gang assault. Guevara was sentenced to six years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.

Guevara entered the United States illegally around June 30, 2015, near McAllen, Texas, without admission or parole by an immigration official. He was arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol on July 10, 2015, near Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was issued a notice to appear and placed into removal proceedings. An immigration judge ordered his release on bond on August 27, 2015, with a subsequent change of venue for his immigration hearings from Louisiana to New York. Guevara was ordered removed in absentia on January 23, 2023.

ICE filed an immigration detainer against him on December 8, 2023, which was honored by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. Guevara is currently held in ICE custody without bond.
