Hyannis man sentenced to 97 months for firearm and drug charges

A Hyannis man, Timothy Lee Galvin, was sentenced in federal court in Boston to over eight years in prison on firearm and drug charges. Galvin, aged 32, will serve 97 months followed by three years of supervised release, as ordered by U.S. District Court Judge Angel Kelley.

The charges include possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. Galvin pleaded guilty in December 2024 after being indicted in August 2023.

The arrest occurred on or about June 2, 2023, in Barnstable, where authorities found Galvin with approximately six grams of fentanyl and three rounds of 9mm ammunition in his possession. Additionally, a privately made .45 caliber pistol, along with 11 rounds of .45 caliber ammunition and 47 rounds of 9mm ammunition, were discovered in a backpack.

The case was announced by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley, James M. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Boston Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, and Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert Galibois. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Tolkoff of the Organized Crime & Gang Unit prosecuted the case.

This sentencing is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program designed to reduce gun violence and other violent crimes by fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, focusing on enforcement priorities, and tracking results. The Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy for this program on May 26, 2021. More details about Project Safe Neighborhoods can be found at Justice.gov/PSN.
